Homepage¶
This guide provides detailed documentation for F5 Insight, including the homepage dashboard, navigation, and configuration of key features.
Overview¶
The F5 Insight homepage provides comprehensive monitoring for your F5 infrastructure, applications, and security posture. It features intelligent anomaly detection and performance optimization tools, giving administrators and users a centralized view of their BIG-IP fleet health and operational status.
Ask AI Assistant¶
Purpose¶
The Ask AI Assistant search bar enables natural language interaction with your F5 fleet. Users can type queries in plain English to retrieve device statistics, configuration information, and operational insights without navigating through multiple menus.
Configuration¶
The AI Assistant connects to a configurable Large Language Model (LLM) backend. Supported providers include OpenAI, Anthropic, or a customer-provided LLM of your choice. LLM configuration is managed in the LLM Insights section of the sidebar navigation.
Example Queries:¶
- “Show device statistics”
- “List pools with unhealthy members”
- “What is the CPU utilization on device X?”
Note
The assistant does not provide autocomplete suggestions. Enter your full query and press Enter to submit.
Data Center Selector¶
Purpose¶
Located in the top-right corner of the homepage, the Data Center Selector filters the entire dashboard view to display only devices and metrics from the selected data center.
Behavior¶
When you change the data center selection, all widgets on the homepage update to reflect data specific to that data center. This includes System Report Cards, Fleet Status, Data Center Performance metrics, and the Insight Feed. The default selection shows aggregate data across all data centers.
System Report Cards¶
Purpose¶
System Report Cards provide at-a-glance health indicators for four critical monitoring categories. Each card displays a status badge (Good, Warning, or Critical) based on deviation thresholds.
Status Thresholds¶
| Status | Threshold | Description |
|---|---|---|
| Good | < 20% | Metrics are within normal operating range |
| Warning | 20% - 50% | Metrics show deviation requiring attention |
| Critical | > 50% | Metrics show significant deviation requiring immediate action |
Anomaly Detection¶
Monitors deviation from expected baselines across four key metrics: connection count deviation, pool availability deviation, BIG-IP CPU utilization deviation, and BIG-IP memory deviation. When any metric exceeds thresholds, the card status escalates accordingly.
Application Performance¶
Tracks application-level health through total response time deviation, 4xx error code deviation, and 5xx error code deviation. These metrics help identify degraded user experience before it impacts business operations.
Security¶
Monitors two security-focused areas: SSL certificate expiry alerts (certificates expiring within 14 days or less) and BIG-IP WAF events (if logging is enabled on the BIG-IP device).
BIG-IP Metrics¶
Provides device-level monitoring for BIG-IP health issues. This card surfaces problems with individual device resources and operational status.
Interaction¶
Click on the expand arrow (chevron) on any card navigates to the anomaly metric page, where detailed analysis is available across multiple time ranges: 1 hour, 6 hours, 1 day, and 1 week.
Fleet Status¶
Purpose¶
The Fleet Status widget displays a summary of all managed BIG-IP devices and their current operational state.
Data Displayed¶
Shows the total device count with a breakdown of devices by status (Up, Down, or Degraded). The circular indicator provides a visual representation of fleet health at a glance.
Interaction¶
This widget is display-only and does not navigate to other pages when clicked.
Insight Feed¶
Purpose¶
The Insight Feed displays AI-generated feedback and recommendations from the F5 AIDF (AI Data Framework) team.
Prerequisites¶
To receive insights, customers must deploy the application telemetry iRule on their BIG-IP devices and opt to upload log data to F5 for analysis.
Update Frequency¶
The Insight Feed refreshes once per day with new recommendations and findings.
Empty State¶
When “No Insights at the moment” is displayed, this indicates either no telemetry data has been uploaded, or the analysis did not identify any anomalies or recommendations to surface.
Data Center Performance¶
Purpose¶
Provides a high-level performance summary for the selected data center.
Metrics Displayed¶
- UpTime: Percentage of time devices in this data center have been operational over the past 24 hours.
- WAF Violations: Count of Web Application Firewall violations detected in the past 24 hours.
F5 Insight Operational Status¶
Purpose¶
Displays the health and resource utilization of the F5 Insight platform itself, not the managed BIG-IP devices.
Metrics Displayed¶
- CPU: Current CPU utilization of the F5 Insight server
- Memory: Current memory utilization of the F5 Insight server
- Storage: Current storage utilization of the F5 Insight server
- License Status: Current state of your F5 Insight license (Active, Expired, etc.)
