F5 AI Data Fabric

Overview

F5 AI Data Fabric (AIDF) extends F5 Insight by automatically identifying your applications and scoring their security posture. It uses AI to analyze your network traffic and security signals, so you can quickly identify which applications are at risk and take action.

Note

AIDF integration is available as a limited availability capability in F5 Insight 1.0. Access requires separate enrollment. Contact your F5 account team for details.

Benefits and key features

  • Automated workload classification — Discover and classify applications running on your BIG-IP infrastructure without manual tagging or configuration. This saves BIG-IP operators time and reduces potential errors during reporting workflows, optimization work, and troubleshooting.
  • Security scoring — Receive per-application risk scores to prioritize security efforts and identify vulnerable or high-risk applications. The scoring engine considers:
    • Current Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) data
    • Latest threat intelligence (including OWASP Top 10)
    • Common security weaknesses and misconfigurations
  • Foundational intelligence — AIDF provides the data foundation for additional F5 Insight capabilities and future enhancements.

Prerequisites

Before you enable AIDF, confirm the following:

  • Network Connectivity - Ensure F5 Insight has outbound connectivity to the AIDF service and that firewall rules permit both inbound and outbound traffic.

Configure AIDF

  1. In the left toolbar, go to the Manage section.

  2. Select AIDF.

  3. Click Enable AIDF.

  4. Enter your sensor credentials. The system requires the following:

    • Endpoint — The AIDF service endpoint URL.
    • Sensor ID — Unique identifier for this F5 Insight instance.
    • Sensor Token — Authentication token for AIDF communication.

    Note

Contact your F5 account team to obtain these three credentials.

  5. Click Test Connection to verify connectivity.

  6. Click Save to save your configuration.

Once enabled, AIDF begins analyzing traffic data collected by F5 Insight to recognize common patterns, identify applications, and calculate and publish security scores. Results will appear in the application inventory and security dashboards as data is processed.
