How to: Create a Global Resiliency Group

Overview

Use this procedure to add Global Resiliency Group using a Global Resiliency feature on the BIG-IP Next Central Manager.

Prerequisites

  • Ensure that the BIG-IP Next instance is operational and running without any issues.

  • Before adding a Global Resiliency Group, ensure that you have configured the VLAN and Global Resiliency Group sync IP. The group sync IP helps the global resiliency group members to communicate among themselves.

  • Ensure that the standalone instance has been configured before adding a Global Resiliency group.

  • The errors occuring during creation of Global Resiiency group are shown as banners. To view these on-screen banners, users must enable notifications in Central Manager for all relevant sources.

Procedures

Create a Global Resiliency Group using BIG-IP Next Central Manager GUI

Use this procedure to add Global Resiliency Group for applications to deploy a new application service to a managed BIG-IP Next Central Manager GUI.

These steps will help you to add Global Resiliency Group for applications.

  1. Log in to BIG-IP Next Central Manager as admin, click the Workspace icon next to the F5 logo, and then click Applications.

  2. Click Global Resiliency in the left hand navigation pane, then click Start Creating (for first time) or + Add(if already a group is created).

  3. Click Next, a new window will open to add global resiliency group.
    This step is when you are setting up for the first time.

  4. Under Properties configure the group name, listener name protocols and port.

    • In the Global Resiliency Group Name, specify the group name.

    • In the DNS Listener Name, specify the listener name.

    • For the Protocols, choose either TCP or UDP or both TCP and UDP from the drop down.

    • In the Port field, specify the port number to use to access the virtual server.

  5. Click the Next button to save the changes and go to the next window. The screen opens with the name you specified in the Global Resiliency Group Name.

  6. Click Start Adding and then select the instances to which you want to deploy the application service, then click Add to List. The Deploy screen opens.

  7. For each instance/location you added in the previous step, under instance, specify the DNS listener, DNS Listener address and GR Group Sync IP.

    • In the DNS Listener, this field is automatically populated from the previous screen.

    • In the DNS Listener address, specify the DNS listener IP address of the virtual server.

    • In the GR Group Sync IP field, select the already existing IP address.

  8. Click the Review button. The Deploy screen displays a summary of the changes, verify the changes and click the Deploy button.

  9. Click the Deploy button. A popup window appears for the confirmation of the changes to be deployed.

  10. Click Yes, Deploy to complete the deployment.

  11. You will be redirected to Global Resiliency screen, the newly added group will be displayed as Deploying. After a short while, the process will be completed.

Note: DNS will be enabled if not already, when group is deployed.

Result: New Global Resiliency group is created.

Delete a Global Resiliency Group uisng BIG-IP Next Central Manager GUI

Use this procedure to delete Global Resiliency Group for applications from the BIG-IP Next Central Manager GUI.

  1. Select the desired Global Resiliency Group to be deleted.

  2. Click Delete to delete the selected Global Resiliency Group.

Note: When FQDNs are associated with Global Resiliency group, the groups cannot be deleted and the delete button is disabled.

Edit a Global Resiliency Group uisng BIG-IP Next Central Manager GUI

Use this procedure to edit Global Resiliency Group for applications from the BIG-IP Next Central Manager GUI.

  1. Click on the desired Global Resiliency Group to be edited and then click Edit.

  2. On the Properties screen, note that no parameters are available for editing. Click Next to proceed to the next screen.

  3. On the Deploy-to screen, you can manage the instance by adding or deleting them.

    Note: The below points are editable in Deploy-to screen:

    • The parameters cannot be modified for existing instance.

    • Previously added instances can be deleted.

    • New instances can be added.

  4. To add new instance, click on Start Adding.

  5. Enter the details for DNS Listener Address and GR Group Sync IP.

    Note: Newly added instances can be deleted if necessary.
