Configure CoreDump Limit on DPU

Coredumps are a disk files containing an image of the process’s memory at the time of termination. This image can be used in a debugger to examine the state of the program at the time that it terminated. F5 recommends modifying the default values of ProcessSizeMax and ExternalSizeMax parameters to 50GB to avoid capturing incorrect or incomplete core created by TMM crashes.

  1. Install the install systemd-coredump file.

    sudo apt install systemd-coredump

  2. Check the systemd-coredump file.

    cat /etc/systemd/coredump.conf

    Sample Response:

    # This file is part of systemd.

    # Entries in this file show the compile time defaults. Local configuration
    # should be created by either modifying this file, or by creating "drop-ins" in
    # the coredump.conf.d/ subdirectory. The latter is generally recommended.
    # Defaults can be restored by simply deleting this file and all drop-ins.
    #
    # Use 'systemd-analyze cat-config systemd/coredump.conf' to display the full config.
    #
    # See coredump.conf(5) for details.

    [Coredump]

    #ProcessSizeMax=2G
    #ExternalSizeMax=2G
    #JournalSizeMax=767M
    #MaxUse=
    #KeepFree=

  3. Edit the coredump.conf file and set the ProcessSizeMax and ExternalSizeMax parameters to 50GB.

    nano /etc/systemd/coredump.conf

  4. Verify the changes.

    systemd-analyze cat-config systemd/coredump.conf
