Fleet management

F5 Insight fleet management lets you operate your F5 fleet at scale from a single, centralized console. This release covers software installations — uploading images, distributing them, and installing them across your instances. Additional fleet management capabilities, such as license management, backup and restore, and support bundle creation, are planned for future releases.

Scope of support

In version 1.2 of F5 Insight (15 July 2026), F5 released the first fleet management use cases: software updates and patching for BIG-IP TMOS software. Version 1.2.2 extends this to F5OS-A software, and adds Engineering Hotfix installation for BIG-IP TMOS.

• Updates are defined as Maintenance or Patch release software installations.
• Patching is defined as the installation of F5 Hardened Releases (HR).
• TMOS Engineering Hotfixes are defined as the installation of Engineering Hotfixes (EHFs) for BIG-IP TMOS.

Note

F5OS Engineering Hotfixes are full installation images, and thus are in scope for the F5OS-A software updates and patching use case.

  • Major upgrades — The ability to upgrade from one major version to another (for example, 17.5.x to 21.1.x, or 1.8.x to 2.x.x).
  • Minor upgrades — The ability to upgrade from one minor version to another (for example, 17.1.x to 17.5.x).
  • Single-slot BIG-IP instances — An installation job installs to an inactive boot volume, so single-slot instances (which have only one boot location) cannot be upgraded or patched this way.
