How to: Deploy iRules to a FAST application service on BIG-IP Next Central Manager

The following describes how to deploy iRules to a new FAST template application service using BIG-IP Next Central Manager.

BIG-IP Next Central Manager provides a FAST application service template for creating applications. This document describes the creation of HTTPS applications. (iRule-HTTPS-Load-Balancing-Service). The template allows you to select one or more iRules for the application.

Use the following procedure to add iRules to a secure application:

• Create an HTTPS application service with iRules

• Add iRules to an application service

Prerequisites

• Configure iRules to BIG-IP Next Central Manager.

• The IP address of the BIG-IP Next instance you plan to deploy the application to.

• The virtual IP address, port, list of endpoint server (pool member) addresses.

• A TLS certificate is configured to BIG-IP Next Central Manager.

Create an HTTPS application service with iRules

The following procedure adds a FAST application service.

1. Click the Workspace icon next to the F5 icon and select Applications.

   The My Application Services list is displayed.

2. At the top right of the screen, click Add Application.

3. Click Create.

4. Select one of the pre-defined iRules FAST application service template iRule-HTTPS-Load-Balancing-Service

5. Click Start Creating.

6. For Location select a BIG-IP Next instance on which to deploy the application service.

7. Enter the Virtual Address for the application service.

8. If the Virtual Port is different from the default provided, change the port number.

9. Add the Application Name for the new application. The name will display on My Application Services list.

10. Click Next.

11. Under Advanced Server Addresses click +.

    1. Enter the Endpoint (pool member) Address.

    2. Enter the server Name.

    3. Repeat step 4 if your application service requires multiple endpoints.

12. If the Service Port number is different from the default, change the port number.

13. Click Next.

14. Click + Add.

    The panel lists all iRules configured to BIG-IP Next Central Manager.

15. Click the check box next to one or more iRules.

    Note: You can create or clone an iRule by clicking Create, or select one iRule and click Clone to the top left of the panel. For more information about creating/cloning iRules, see Create a new iRule.

16. Click Add.

    The iRules are added to the application service’s iRules list. The list displays the iRule priority order.

17. Review the iRules added to the application service:

    1. Ensure the iRule Version is correct.

       You can select any version unless they are in staging under the name of a different user. For more information about iRule versioning, see Managing iRule versions.

    2. Click +Add to add more iRules to the application service.

       The list displays iRules that have not been added, or have been removed from the application service.

    3. To remove an iRule click the check box next to the iRule and click Remove.

    4. To change the order of the iRules in the list, select the check box next to one or more iRules and use the arrow buttons to move the iRule up or down the priority list.

18. Click Next.

19. Select a Certificate and click Next.

    The Summary of the application service is displayed.

20. Review the summary information. If any information is incorrect, click Back to edit the application details.

21. Click Validate to validate that the application is ready to deploy.

22. If the validation is a success, click Deploy.

    If the validation finds errors. View the deployment validation results and correct the deployment issues.

The new FAST application service is now in the My Application Services list.

Add iRules to an application service

Add iRules to a FAST application service that is configured to BIG-IP Next Central Manger.

1. Click the Workspace icon next to the F5 icon and select Applications.

   The My Application Services list is displayed.

2. Click the application Name.

3. From the panel menu, select iRules.

   The list of iRules associated with the application service is displayed. To change the version of the iRule, see Edit an iRule.

4. Click + Add.

   The panel lists all iRules configured to BIG-IP Next Central Manager.

5. Click the check box next to one or more iRules.

   Note: You can create or clone an iRule by clicking Create, or select one iRule and click Clone to the top left of the panel. For more information about creating/cloning iRules, see How to: Create and manage iRules on BIG-IP Next Central Manager.

6. Click Add.

   The iRules are added to the application service’s iRules list.

7. Click Deploy.

The iRules have been added to the FAST application service.
